Cross-Country
Cross-country is a type of mountain biking and is most familiar amongst mountain bike riders. The reason behind its fame is that it is one of the categories in the Olympics and features a long ride in the backcountry. The ride demands physical strength, and people with low weight and smooth shifting pick this style. However, there are a few struggles involved like riding on more technical terrain and pedalling.
Downhill
Downhill is quite easy to understand because it stays true to its name and involves riding a bike from the top of the mountain to down. It is not an easy ride, and those who have just begun to start with MTB shouldn’t take it up without proper training and practice, as it involves a high risk of injuries and accidents. The bikes to ride on downhill come with full suspension and knobby tire and are often heavy.
Trail
The most common biking style, trail, is ideal for beginners and experts as well. It focusses and puts the riders on every type of terrain like downhill, uphill, and cross country. Bikers also need to be physically fit as terrains don’t follow a uniform pattern and can throw uneven terrains. Trail bikes are also the most purchased ones and are lesser in weight, mid-range front fork, full-suspension, and offer maximum comfort to the rider.
