    How to Become a Certified Pilates Instructor

    There are clear steps you can take to become certified as a Pilates instructor. After completing a comprehensive certification program, you will be well on your way to becoming an instructor.

    1. Pilates Classes

    Take a Pilates class first! You may have already attended a few Pilates sessions, which sparked your interest in becoming an instructor. If not, then get on the mat. Immerse yourself into the lifestyle and learn about its history!

    Find your local Pilates studio. (Hi, Boom Pilates). Take various classes in different studios and learn which techniques you are passionate about.

    1. Classical or Contemporary Route

    You must first choose the route you wish to follow to narrow your specialization before you begin your Pilates instructor certification. Classical Pilates and contemporary Pilates are the two most popular routes.

    Classical Pilates is as close to the original methods as possible, as described by Joseph Pilates, who invented and established Pilates.

    Contemporary Pilates is based on the work of Joseph Pilates, but it is heavily influenced by physical therapy and other changes determined by each Pilates instructor.

    This can range from 7 months to two years, depending on the certification path and time commitment. It can take up to two years to complete a full certification for one solo modality.

    What is the average salary of a Pilates teacher?

    Pilates instructors generally earn between $25 and $60 per hour. There is room for growth, especially if you have your studio. The number of courses available varies according to where you are in the US.
